The Sylvan R. Shemitz Memorial Scholarship

In honor of our beloved founder, Sylvan R. Shemitz, The Lighting Quotient is partnering with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of North America to sponsor a yearly scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students in accredited lighting programs. This is the inaugural year for the scholarship, which is open for entries through May 1, 2010. Students must submit a 1,500-word essay titled “The Next Generation of Lighting: How would you bring a historical lighting installation into the next generation of sustainability?” Judges from The Lighting Quotient and the IES will select the winning essay, and award the student a $2,500 scholarship. The Lighting Quotient has also started an endowment fund of $50,000 that will grow to support the scholarship, so we can continue to honor Sy for years to come. Click here for entry forms and more information on the scholarship.

Also, many people have expressed interest in contributing to the scholarship fund in Sy’s name. If you would like more information on contributions, please contact Lenore Wszolek at LWszolek@TheLightingQuotient.com.
